Schools issue parents with screen time limits from birth to age 16

A coalition of 21 schools, nurseries and colleges has written to families, urging parents to reduce both their children’s and their own screen time at home.

Head teachers from Southwark in south London said they were taking action due to the “negative impact of this technology” but insisted the message is “not an attack on modern parenting”.

Up to 18 months old: 5 minutes

18 months to 2 years old: 1 hour

2 years old to Reception: 2 hours

Reception to Year 2: 2.5 hours

Year 3 to Year 5: 3 hours
