Mental health crisis raises fears for younger generation

A report, called Invest in Childhood, says that it is a “moral necessity and economic priority” to intervene early in children to improve mental health and prevent problems escalating.

A generation of children risk being lost to mental health problems with a rise in depression, anxiety and eating disorders among those aged eight to 25 that will “cast a long shadow into the future”, the report, by the Centre for Mental Health, says.

It calls for ministers to introduce tighter regulations on social media and to invest in new programmes such as therapy for exam stress and parenting classes.
