- Instagram announced last month (July 23, 2025) new protections for adult-managed accounts that primarily feature children
- Targets “kidfluencer” accounts and family vlogger content that puts children at risk
- New features prevent “potentially suspicious adults” from seeing or interacting with these accounts
- Includes automatic strictest messaging settings and offensive comment filtering
- Addresses long-standing criticism about exploitation of children in social media content creation
The update will impact the accounts of family vloggers/creators and parents running accounts for “kidfluencers,” both of which have faced criticism for the risks associated with sharing children’s lives on social media. This represents Instagram’s first direct action to address the controversial kidfluencer phenomenon.
We’re extending some Teen Account protections to adult-managed accounts that primarily feature children. These include automatically placing these accounts into our strictest message settings to prevent unwanted messages, and turning on Hidden Words, which filters offensive comments.
