The Dutch government on Tuesday said children under 15 years old should not have access to social media like TikTok and Instagram.
The Dutch Ministry of Health has advised parents to keep children under 15 off TikTok and Instagram due to growing concerns about depression, panic attacks and sleep disruptions caused by psychological harm.
Not legally binding, the recommendation comes alongside calls to remove devices from bedrooms and encourage outdoor play to build digital resilience.
Schools in the Netherlands are also enforcing tighter phone restrictions, driven by concerns over student screen time. This builds on earlier pressure, some 1,400 healthcare professionals have previously advocated stricter youth screen limits.
